Navarathri Festival Dassara

Navaratri festival means nine nights, is a famous festival celebrated by Hindus around the globe in the honor of devine goddess Durga. This festival is celebrated for ten days.

Navaratri is celebrated in the lunar month of Ashwin (usually in September or October) from the Shukla Paksha Pratipada (the next of the New moon day of Bhadrapada) to the Vijaya

Dashami or the tenth day of Ashwin. The first day of Aashwin of the bright fortnight is a festival that symbolizes the nine days of battle with asuras/rakshas (demons), while the tenth day named Vijayadashami means the victorious tenth day. It is considered the Godess Durga won the battle against the demons. The 9th day of Navaratri is one celebrated for Goddess Saraswathi (Goddess of knowledge).

Though all the days are celebrated with special poojas everywhere, from Calcutta (Eastern India) to Gujrat (Western India) and Kashmir to Kanyakumari.

People also celebrate Dussehra with a wide variety of expressions, ranging from worshipping the goddess Durga to exhibiting colorful toys.

Garba is an Indian form of dance that originated in the Gujarat region. Garba is performed during all the 9 nights of Navaratri in Gujarat and rest of the world. Here is a video on the kind of beauty and colors that a Garba dance festival has:

Tirumal Brahmotsavas:
The Brahmotsavam festival is one of the most important and auspicious functions in Tirupati. The Brahmotsava is performed over a nine-day period in the Tamil Month of Purattasi. Tirumala Brahmotsavas complement Navaratri festivals as these fall on the same period.
