ERI KAATHA RAMAR TEMPLE in Madhuranthakam

Sri EriKaatha Ramar Temple is once again an enchanting experience during this year of 2007. We took an hour and a half long drive to Madhuranthakam from Chennai for the famous Vadaithi Vutsavam (Ritual) that is second of its kind after Sree Nama Navami. These are the two vuthsavas performed to the lord Sri Rama. Vadaithi Vutsavam falls during the month of June/July on the last day of EriKaatha Ramar Brahmaotsavas and Thirumanjanam is performed to the Vutsava moorthy. Whereas, Sri Rama Navami falls during March/April and and Thirumanjanam is performed to the main moorthy.

ERI KAATHA RAMAVankipuram (my family) takes a privilege to receive the respects from this unique Temple through the garland that on the Utsava moorhty.

This ERI KAATHA RAMAR temple, the scene of action situated in the Chengalpat district of Tamil Nadu to witnessing another sport of Sri Rama. In the Ancient times during early British Rule in India, people of this town ruled by a thoughtless British Collector with name Colonel Price. The inscriptions bear the exact date of this momentous event and a mini-shrine erected in the campus of that big temple for Mother Sita (Janakavalli Thaayar Sannidhi) in token of the Collector's gratitude illustrates amply all the relevant details of the occurrence of the miracle. Let us first glean a few facts about that ancient kshetra.

The reservoir near Madurantakam irrigates more than 1000 small villages in and around the town. The entire town was donated to Brahmins by Chola King, Uthamachola aka Maduranthaka Chola for chanding and preverving the four vedas. Therefore the village is known as Maduranthakachaturvedamangalam.

Ramar ThirumanjanamThis ancient Vaishnava kshetra etched its glorious name on the pages of history and won the highest veneration by the enlightened rulers, as exemplified by the lavish endowment they voluntarily offered, that strikes the eve and lifts the soul on listening from sthalagnas and priests. In addition, it is here Sri Ramanuja was blessed with Panchasamskaras by Peria Nambi and the legends recorded the eventelaborately and named it Dwayavilinda kshetra.

According to sthalapurana, once the big tank bund lying behind this holy temple was badly damaged due to heavy rains. If repairs were not attended to it timely, the whole town would be inundated by the tank water causing hardships to the people with loss of property worth crores of rupees, since thousands of acres of paddy fields and countless cattle would go out of existence. When people petitioned to the British officer, he pooph-poophed, asking them to pray to their Lord Rama for repairs.

Then one day the same British officer apologizes with the people in the town saying that Lord Sree Rama appeared in his dream and ordered to build Bridge between the tank bund and the holy temple.

Knowing this ancient tale, we feel generous to serve and contribute to this Holy Temple for the Rituals twice a year. Narasimhan Son and Kalyanatha RahulOur Vankipuram Family is know to be famous in Madhuranthakam and also in Mambakkam. Mambakkam is a Hamlet where my four fathers are born and brought up.

This Hamlet is One KM away from Madhuranthakam in Chengalpat district of Tamil Nadu. We attended the Ritual that happened to be on 5th day of July 2007, same as we did last year. As my Father Mr. Balaji S/o Late.Kannan Iyengar could not attend the Ritual on behalf of Venkipuram family as he is staying far away from this place along with the rest of the family members, my mother, Brother, Sister their partners and Grand children.

We and Wagonr CarWe were 7 members of the Vankipuram family to attend Wadaithi Vothsavam. It was Venkatesh Mama, Kundalatha, My Wife Sudha, Son Sai Madhav and me traveled to this temple town on our Wagonr was an amaizing long drive.
